A request had been received from the Vice Chairman to change the day of the Select Committee from a Tuesday to a Wednesday. Members were also requested to submit there preferences by email to the Democratic Services Officer for the start time of these meetings.

Scrutiny Training Day

A Scrutiny Training event had been organised for Wednesday 28th June 2006, to which all Chairs, Vice Chairs plus one other Select Committee Member had been requested to attend. The Chairman requested that any members of the Select Committee that wished to attend this training submit their names to her as soon as possible. The Chairman would make the final decision on who should attend but there may be a possibility of further places if more than one name was submitted.
207Witnesses had been invited to attend from the Stockton Teenage Pregnancy Unit and the Regional Pregnancy Co-ordinator had also been invited to answer Members' questions.

Discussion was held on the new SRE pack and how this was being delivered within Schools. It was stated that there was no set guidelines and that Schools were following different models. It was suggested that different strategies within schools be investigated to find best practice.

Teenage Pregnancy was an area that involved many agencies and joint working was improving to close the gaps within this area.

Further information on other authorities staffing and funding arrangements was requested. It was stated that some authorities have employed permanent key staff rather than being reliant on NRF funding.

Members discussed the ‘lets talk about sex' discussion forum/seminar that was to be rolled out in September.

Information was provided on numbers of teenage pregnancies, second pregnancies, terminations, child protection and infant/child mortality.
