Members were provided with evidence from Peter Seller, Head of Children's Strategy, as part of their review of Obesity.

The Children's Trust Board, was established to oversee the implementation of the Children Act 2004 and its legal requirements. The Children's Trust Board would co-ordinate, plan, commission and deliver services based on local need for children and young people to enable achievement of the Outcomes Framework of Every Child Matters (ECM). Included within this was the 'Be Healthy' initiative which included strategies such as Healthy School Meals. The Childrens Trust Board has young people as Members which assisted in ensuring that they were meeting the current needs of young people in Stockton-on-Tees.

An Obesity Strategy Group had also recently been established to consider the Obesity agenda, no meetings had been held as yet.

An update was provided on bids for Play Builder Scheme, Play Pathfinder Development Scheme and My Place. There had been a drive from central government to encourage young people to get involved in outdoor activities.

Members discussed the Healthy School Meals strategy and whether any guidance could be provided to ensure that packed lunches were also made healthy.

Information was also provided on extended schools and Members requested the latest figures on those Schools that were partaking in extended schools activities. Peter Seller would provided Members with the latest information.

Members were provided with a monitoring report against the action plan that was drawn up following Members review of Teenage Pregnancy.

Members requested the latest teenage pregnancy figures for Stockton on Tees with comparatives both locally and nationally. Peter Seller would forward this information to the Scrutiny Officer to disseminate to Members. Stockton had been highlighted by the government as a 'red' area, as had 25 authorities in total. Discussion was held on the budget and Members were informed that some additional funding had been earmarked by the Government for 'red' authorities.
