1121 WORK PROGRAMME
Concluded that the discussion be noted by the Chairman for discussions at the Scrutiny Liaison Forum and the Executive Scrutiny Committee.
5.00pm-6.00pm

Preamble

ItemPreamble
1121The Committee was presented with information, which provided background information for Members to aid in their discussion of potential areas to be reviewed for liaison with the Executive Scrutiny Committee. It was recognised that the work programme would also have to include follow up work of the reviews completed by the previous Education, Leisure & Cultural Select Committee.

The Chairman had sought the initial views of the Cabinet Member for Children & Young People and the Corporate Director Children, Education And Social Care on what their priorities were. The areas highlighted were: -
Educational achievements of looked after children
The disaggregation of Connexions Tees Valley
Teenage Pregnancies in Stockton
‘Enjoying' part of the ‘Enjoying and Achieving' theme in the Community Strategy

The Committee discussed each of the areas in detail and other areas were also highlighted, which included pre and after school clubs, added value from school to school, school amalgamations and the attention given to ‘the children in the middle band'.

It was noted that work on Educational achievements of looked after children may be ongoing within the Corporate Working Party and that this area may be a possible duplication of work. Following discussions around the area of Teenage Pregnancies in Stockton, further information was required from officers on any work which was already ongoing, which the Chairman would obtain prior to the Scrutiny Liaison Forum meeting. It was also noted that the ‘Enjoying' part of the ‘Enjoying and Achieving' theme in the Community Strategy would be difficult to scrutinise.

CONCLUDED that the discussion be noted by the Chairman for discussions at the Scrutiny Liaison Forum and the Executive Scrutiny Committee.
