The minutes of the meeting held on 26th October, 2011 were signed by the Chairman as a correct record.

Consideration was given to the draft minutes of the meeting held on 23rd November, 2011.

Members were provided with baseline information for the EIT Review of School Effectiveness.

Officers provided a detailed presentation on each of the service areas included within the review.

Members raised the following areas/issues:-

• Currently there were low exclusion rates, good attendance levels, no schools in an OFSTED category and there had been improvements in attainment
• The Committee noted that services falling within the school improvement had already achieved their savings target as part of earlier review work and staffing numbers had reduced from 82 to 41 FTEs
• Members asked that the impact of the School Inclusion Review be monitored
• The impact of academies/ free schools
• The continued availability of the multilingual service
• The development of the Prospectus of Services to Schools including the costed service
• The scope to grow the costed and brokerage service
• Additional resources for schools with numbers of child protection cases


Members requested the following information:-

• List of Acronyms
• Previous Cabinet report on Educational Attainment
• Data on School Leavers going into Further Education, Higher Education and Employment
• Information on the Letter Box project

The next meeting would be held on 25th January 2012.

Members were informed that there were a number of suggestions for work topics going to the Scrutiny Liaison Forum on 19th December and that these would be agreed by Executive Scrutiny on 20th December, 2011.
