Cllr Maurice Perry declared a personal, non-prejudicial interest in item 4 - Review of Sustainable School Travel Strategy due to being the Chairman of the Education Support Panel.

Cllr David Coleman declared a personal, non-prejudicial interest in item 4 - Review of Sustainable School Travel Strategy due to being a School Governor at Tilery Primary School.

Cllr Dick Cains declared a personal, non-prejudicial interest in item 4 - Review of Sustainable School Travel Strategy due to being a School Governor at Crooksbarn Primary School.

Consideration was given to the content of the draft minutes of the meeting held on 5th February 2008.

As part of the Review of Sustainable School Travel Strategy Members received evidence from Nigel Gibb (Car Parking Manager) and Karen Smith (Enforcement Officer).

The evidence presented by Nigel Gibb (Car Parking Manager) covered the following keys areas:-

1. The relevant Road Traffic Acts

2. The relevant road restrictions

3. Possible changes to the Road Traffic Acts

4. A possible two tier system for tickets

5. Car Parking Enforcement Targets for Schools

Members were then given the opportunity to ask questions and make comments on the evidence.

The evidence presented by Karen Smith (Enforcement Officer) covered the following keys areas:-

1. The number of staff within the team

2. How schools are prioritised

3. What happens at a school visit and who is involved

4. The cost of a Traffic Regulation Order

Members were then given the opportunity to ask questions and make comments on the evidence.

Members were informed that Karen Wilkinson (Regional School Travel Advisor North East) could not attend the meeting due to a recent accident. The Scrutiny Officer outlined that he would obtain some information for the next meeting.
