Members were presented with a DVD of the SIRF and Fringe festival which showed the wide variety of productions which had taken place. Members suggested that the DVD could be used to promoted Stockton and the events it holds. Members were advised This was already planned and would include footage from the Rat Race and the Triathlon. Members expressed the need for more media coverage of the signature events regionally to encourage people to visit Stockton.

The Committee discussed the feedback from the recent Viewpoint focus group sessions and noted that events were held in high regard by residents.

The Committee was provided with information and statistics on 5 events which were SIRF, Take to the Tees, Vehicle and Vintage Rally, Rat Race and Stockton Triathlon. Members discussed the feedback from the events highlighting that overall the events were successful. During SIRF a quarter of businesses experienced a 50% or greater increase in turnover which helped to improve Stockton's economy. The committee suggested the need for more media attention on the T.V for signature events to help boost the events regionally.

Officers were currently considering the development of a 5 year strategy for the events which would help improve the service provided. They were also looking at the possibility of charging for some events and this would be looked at in detail and discussed with the Committee at a future meeting.

The Chair reminded the Committee of the evidence that had been presented to date.
