Members received a presentation from the Corporate Director of Development and Neighbourhood Services with regards to events in the Borough. The main issues discussed were:-

- The 2011 events programme which included Stockton International Riverside Festival (SIRF), Billingham Folklore Festival (BIFF), Tees Regatta, Cycling Festival, Triathlon, Take to the Tees and the River Rat Race which was televised.
- The development of an events strategy which was on track to be completed for April 2012 along with a 5 - 10 year events programme.
- As part of the development of the 5 -10 year events programme a programme for smarter procurement which would make the events run more efficiently would be introduced.
- 2012 would be an important year for events in the Borough due to the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics and 25 years of SIRF along with all the other events planned.
- As part of the original review, the Committee had challenged officers to work towards getting more of Stockton's events televised. Officers had been working closely with companies and the cycling festival was going appear on TV in 2012 and it was hoped that the triathalon would make it to TV in 2013.

Members requested the following:-

- that information on the availability of the Council's advice in relation to the organisation of events on the website be provided to the sports development team to be included in their E-newsletter that is distributed to local sporting clubs;
- A more detailed breakdown of how the projected efficiencies for the review would be achieved be sent to the Committee.

The next meeting in the current year would be 16th January 2012 and the EIT Task and Finish Review of Highways would be considered.
