The Committee was provided with Select Committee updates

Members were given opportunity to ask questions/make comments that could be summarised as follows:-
Place
- Discussion was held around the information given to blue badge holders regarding the use of the blue badges to make sure they understood the use of it.

Crime and Disorder
- The Chair of Crime and Disorder provided an update on the work of the Select Committee.
- At November meeting of Executive Scrutiny the Chair of Crime and Disorder declared an interest as he had previously worked for a company who carried out the market research on SIRF. During the discussions a Cllr mentioned that they believed the research had not been undertaken appropriately. Following this the Monitoring Officer carried out an investigation and it was questioned whether this should be reported back to the Committee.

CYP
- Members discussed school inclusion and some schools policies regarding uniform and behaviour being unfair, but acknowledged that sometimes excluding for disruptive children was the right choice.

ASCH
- Members discussed Queensway Dental practice no longer accepting NHS patients and the impact that would have on patients. Members questioned how many patients had felt pressured to pay for private dental care because of this. Members of ASCH Committee were due to visit Queensway in order to discuss with the Practice and to see how patients could be supported to find alternatives. It was asked whether this was the only practice no longer accepting NHS patients as Oasis Dental Care Yarm has recently become part of BUPA?

The Chair emphasised the need for Scrutiny Liaison Forum to be mindful of the Select Committees workloads when discussing the work programme for the next year and requested the Committee support this. It was noted that a vote was held and agreed unanimously that it was the desire of Executive Scrutiny that the outstanding items from the current 2017/18 work programme should be concluded before Select Committees take on items from the 2018/19 Work Programme

Members also discussed the late arrival of some papers at meeting and requested that efforts be made by officers to have items to Members at the earliest opportunity.

The Regional Scrutiny Network meeting was scheduled for 24th April 2018. It would be circulated to Chairs and Vice Chairs appropriately.
