Members were advised that Doorstopper leaflets would be ready for distribution in the beginning of 2009.

Volunteers had been trained and had rehearsed their talks with Neighbourhood watch members.

The awareness training for Carers had not taken place due to the fact that the window of availability had been missed.

Mr Redfern reported that he had manned a stall at the 'Are You Being Served...Well' event, however there had been no referrals received as a result of the event. It was hoped that once publicity started that referrals would start to be received.

Mr Redfern requested referrals from Members for any vulnerable people who would benefit from Doorstoppers assistance.

The Chair advised that Stockton Home Safety Association would put something out advertising Doorstoppers.

Mr Redfern advised that he had not received the cheque for the second instalment of funds from Stockton Home Safety Association to Doorstoppers, which had been requested in September.

41/08
Members were advised that due to illness, Mrs Wilford had not been able to attend and give a presentation on the strategy changes to the 'No Cold Calling Zones' as requested at the previous meeting.

Members were advised that issues had been resolved and Local Authorities were now able to have more 'No Cold Calling Zones'; however resources were still an issue.

Members discussed the criteria and application forms observing that Zones could be created in any area, however they were intended for areas with a definite fear of crime.
SHS
42/08
Members were advised that the Chair, Vice Chair and Secretary of Stockton Home Safety Association met with Yvonne Cheung of PCT to discuss the joining of forces for 2009 Trips and Falls Awareness Day.

The discussion proved to be informative and productive; upon securing funds, and a site visit from Yvonne Cheung to ensure that the Town Hall met the PCT's needs as well as Stockton Home Safety Association, plans would be finalised.
SHS
43/08
The Children Centre Officer advised that the PCT had allocated funds of 30,000 over the next two years to be used by the Children Centre Officer in relation to home safety.

Members were advised that in previous years, referrals for home safety equipment dried up in the lead up to Christmas, however this Christmas they had been inundated.

Members were informed that officers had obtained dolls that were fashioned as though they had burns. The dolls would be used to educate parents in promoting home safety by preventing burns.

Members were advised that the Home Safety Officer was expanding her role by giving advice to anyone who did not live in a deprived area whilst still providing equipment to all families within deprived areas under a loan system.

Further to previous reports regarding the appointment of a funding host for the 18 million national allocation given by the Government, Members were advised that there was no further information to report.

The Police Officer was not present.
SHS

The Fire Officer reported that the numbers of Home Fire Safety visits for November were - Stockton 193; Billingham 58 and Thornaby 106.

Members were advised that the cadet scheme previously reported was proving successful.

Fire Officers had been working with children at the Clarence's and as a result there had been a reduction of malicious phone calls from the Clarence's.

The Fire Officer reported that further to the Chairs request, the skip in her ward had been removed in time for Bonfire Night and was returned again the following morning.
