The Chair advised that initial preparations had been carried out for a No Cold Calling Zone to be set up in her Ward by way of leaflet drops and a meeting for the public at the Education Centre. The feedback on the leaflets had been positive; however no members of the public attended the meeting.

Further leaflets would to be distributed within the same area of the Ward.

Members were reminded that Stockton Home Safety Association would be holding a Falls Awareness Day joint with the Primary Care Trust on Wednesday 24th June 2009 outside and inside Stockton Town Hall.

The Primary Care Trust would be contributing 1000 towards the Falls Awareness day which would go towards staffing costs, freebies for visitors, hiring of equipment and any other requirements for Falls Day.

The money would be paid into the Stockton Home Safety Association account to ensure that the funds stayed intact for Falls Day.

Members discussed the hazards of pavement parking and 'A' boards which were linked to tripping and falls particularly in Billingham on Market day - Monday.

The Children's Centre Officer advised that she was in the process of submitting a bid for 319 sets of safety equipment at a cost of 20,000 from the governments new Safe at Home Scheme.

R.O.S.P.A had advised that they would encourage applications from Children's Centre; however a bid was still required to be submitted. Another requirement was that all the equipment be fitted for the allocated families. Tristar had quoted on fitting the items and was being considered.

Members were advised that the Children's Centre had a new team member who would deal with the majority of disadvantaged families which would enable an existing officer to undertake roadshows and visit and advise families who were not so disadvantaged.

Equipment could not be provided to the not so disadvantaged but advice could be given on the correct use and placement of the equipment the families owned.

The Children's Centre's team were preparing for the 'Child Accident Prevention's' week and would be working with 'WHOOPS' during that week going into some Children's centre.

Members were advised that the Children's Centre now had a partnership with Cleveland Fire Brigade. In homes where there are children and drugs or a lot of prescription drugs, the Fire Brigade would supply and mount a lockable, solid, metal medicine cabinet to protect the children from harm.
